While fighting above ground in Stalingrad, Shakov and Pvt. Rubinski were forced into the sewers when the ground underneath them collapsed, taking a Mark IV Panzer with it. After surviving this ordeal, they were forced to take cover against a pursuing team of Germans bent on killing the both of them. Luckily, these same Germans were soon dispatched by Lieutenant Tanya Pavelovna and her party, seeing as how their progress through the sewers led them straight into the enemy.
Quickly joining up with Pavelovna's group, Shakov and Rubinski proceeded to advance on point without any prompting, traveling through a tunnel. However, this action proved to be a horrendous mistake as it was soon discovered the Germans had deployed two MG42 nests to prevent any Soviet advances in the sewers.
